Powertek Berhad, an Independent Power Producer, generates electrical energy for sale to Tenaga Nasional Berhad. Powertek and its subsidiaries own and operate three power plants in Melaka, Malaysia with a total installed generating capacity of 1,490 MW, comprising:
- 440 MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine ("OCGT") power plant at Telok Gong, owned and operated by Powertek Berhad ("TGPS 1").
- 330 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine ("CCGT") power plant at Tanjong Kling, owned and operated by Pahlawan Power Sdn Bhd ("TKPS").
- 720 MW CCGT power plant at Telok Gong, owned and operated by Panglima Power Sdn Bhd ("TGPS 2").

In January 2005, Powertek Berhad’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Pendekar Power Labuan Ltd, had through a Consortium, acquired an effective 10% interest in Taweelah Asia Pacific Company (“TAPCO”) which owns and operates a power generation plant and a sea water desalination plant located in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with an approximate capacity of 928 MW and 92 million imperial gallons per day (“MIGD”) respectively (“Taweelah B Project ”).
The Taweelah B Project also involves the construction of a new extension power generation and sea water desalination plant, which upon completion scheduled in July 2008, TAPCO will have a combined nominal capacity of 2,000 MW and 160 MIGD in power and sea water desalination respectively. |

In March 2006, Tanjong plc, via its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, Kuasa Nusajaya (L) Ltd, acquired two power generating companies in Egypt, Suez Gulf Power SAE (“Suez Gulf”) and Port Said East Power SAE (“Port Said”), and a common operating company for both, Egyptian Operating Company.
Suez Gulf and Port Said each own a gas-fired thermal power plant with a generating capacity of 682.5MW located at each end of the Suez Canal. Both plants are already operational and each is governed by a 20-year power purchase agreement with the state-owned Egyptian Electricity Holding Company ("EEHC") as the off-taker. EEHC's payment obligations are guaranteed by the Central Bank of Egypt and are denominated in US dollars.
